If you go on Mumsnet between May 17 and June 6, you’ll find it eerily silent. This is not due to site maintenance. No, there’s a three-week festival of rosé wine happening in Covent Garden, with eight pop-up bars slinging every possible permutation of chilly sweet pink goodness: cocktails, frosé, probably pints of the stuff. That’s where the mums’ll be.
Now, full disclosure, but when we were told about this posh piss-up we didn’t exactly trip over our Common Projects in our haste to spread the good word. We ummed and ahhed and eventually told a guy promoting it that it ‘wasn’t one for us’. He wasn’t having that, though. He sent us a shocked-face emoji, and through gritted teeth typed: ‘It is so up Time Out’s street’ [my italics], helpfully clarifying: ‘we are talking about rosé wine not roses.’ I mean, Covent Garden was once the world’s most famous fruit, veg and flower market, so it would have been a forgivable mistake. Hey, Mr PR man, haven’t you ever seen ‘My Fair Lady’? Oh, you simply must.

Actually, after all that needless cynicism in our part, Rosé Fest looks quite cool, with bars from Mirabeau, Amie Wine, HUN Wine, Chez Antoinette x AIX-en-Provence, and Magners The Oystermen x Pol Roger, cocktails from the likes of Frenchie, Sushisamba and Ladurée, plus a rosé-themed floral in-store installation at Tom Ford and a limited-edition cherry-blossom-pink shake at Shake Shack. It’s all timed to celebrate the return of indoor dining to London on May 17, so maybe pop along and have a nice cold glass of something with the gals. Chaaars.
