Activists seeking to raise awareness about serious mental health issues are looking to commission a mural depicting The Prodigy’s Keith Flint, who passed away in March 2019. the mural will appear on September 10, marking World Suicide Prevention Day.
The artwork is being commissioned by music and mental wellbeing festival Headstock. Celebrated street artist Akse P19 has been approached to paint the piece. It will pop up at Beechwood Road, Hackney, close to The Four Aces Club where The Prodigy played their first gig in 1990. Mental health support service Shout 85258’s logo and text support number will appear prominently on the artwork.
A crowdfunder, which closes at the end of the month, is aiming to raise £12,500.
Akse P19 recently hit the headlines after his Marcus Rashford mural was defaced following England’s defeat in the Euro 2020 finals. The vandalism was subsequently covered up by messages of support, until it was eventually restored by the artist. Previous to that he collaborated with former members of Joy Division to create an Ian Curtis mural, also to raise awareness for mental health charities.
