London’s best Christmas sandwich has been crowned for 2024 by Time Out

London’s best Christmas sandwich has been crowned for 2024 by Time Out

From revered little indie sandwich shops all the way up to high-street behemoth chains, London’s sarnie offerings have had a festive do-over in recent weeks. Shelves are crammed with seasonally-updated sandos featuring stuff like turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and more – but with so much choice, how do you know which ones are any good?

To save you the festive burn-out of sampling every single festive sandwich this city has to offer, here at Time Out we’ve done the hard graft. To find the capital’s jolliest sandwich, we taste-tested 12 sarnies from London’s best delis and bakeries, from Dom’s Subs to Popham’s.

Taking the gold medal in 2024 is Stakehaus’s dry aged roast beef rump sub, which our writer Chiara Wilkinson described as ‘a roast dinner in sandwich form – but not in a shit, mass-produced way. In a way that has clearly been meticulously thought out, calculated, curated.’

Second came The Gobbler by Wilde’s Deli, which Time Out food editor Leonie Cooper called ‘absolutely audacious’, while third was The Sleigher by The Black Pig. Jordan Bassett said of The Sleigher:

‘A delicious toasted ciabatta breezeblock stuffed with slow roast pork shoulder, smoked turkey and a whole lot more, this is one of those sarnies that looks like it needs a foot-long stick planted in the middle to hold it together.’

The other nine sarnies weren’t ranked (they’re listed alphabetically), but we still tried and tasted ’em all – you can read the full lowdown here.
