Last week, after 18 months of closure, a reopening date was announced by TfL for Kentish Town’s tube station. The Northern line stop has been shut since June 26 2023, with TfL needing to undertake essential repairs on its two escalators.
Kentish Town’s tube stop is set to reopen on Monday December 23, but the going hasn’t been smooth. The reopening has been delayed twice after TfL found that the station’s entrance hall was in much worse condition than expected.
The London Underground hub has also had lots of smaller works take place, from realigning its ticket gates and installing new tiles to repainting its platforms and passageways. Kentish Town’s old ticket office has also been removed to increase space.
All of which, needless to say, has us intrigued to see what Kentish Town’s spruced-up tube station now looks like. And, excitingly, TfL has just released a few preview pics of how the place is shaping up.
While Kentish Town’s Northern line stop will reopen on Monday, it won’t be entirely free of building-work. TfL has said that ‘some hoardings’ will remain in place until next year while new ticket machines are installed, and that there won’t be direct pedestrian access between Kentish Town’s Thameslink-serving train station and the tube until next year.

Elsewhere on the Northern line, Colindale has also reopened this week after a six-month closure. The Piccadilly, meanwhile, will be part-suspended and have reduced services until at least the middle of January.
