Few areas of London seem to undergo such constant evolution as Shoreditch. Once the epicentre of London nightlife, the area might still be home to a handful of the city’s biggest party venues – long live Village Underground and XOYO – but these days it seems more enamoured with small plates restaurants and ‘lifestyle stores’ than cutting-edge nightlife.
With legendary venues like Plastic People and the Joiner’s Arms having long since closed down, news of a brand new nightlife venue arriving in the area is thoroughly exciting. Launching this weekend, Unlocked Shoreditch opens in a previously unoccupied warehouse at 118 Curtain Road that was once regularly used as a venue for illegal squat raves.
The three-floor, 1,500-capacity venue will be soft-launching over the spring with Unlocked Origins, a series of four club nights headlined by an eclectic line-up of international selectors including Australian tech-house DJ Tobiahs, genre-hopping global music aficionado Nooriyah, Rinse FM regular Jyoty and London-based underground trio Mason Collective, before opening fully in the autumn.
