A brand new town is being built in west London

This week, Ealing council revealed its vision for a huge brand new neighbourhood in west London. Named Old Oak, it’ll span three boroughs and take around 30 years to be fully brought to life.

Old Oak will be built across the boroughs of Brent, Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham. The area will be served by North Acton station and the yet to open Old Oak Common station – a massive HS2 interchange that is set to be the biggest train station ever built in the UK. This huge project is being overseen by a mayor of London approved organisation called the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC).

Right now, a lot of the land that Old Oak is set to be built on is industrial land, and it’s thought that no existing residences will have to be knocked down to make it happen.

According to the plans, the town will feature 25,000 new homes, at least half of which will be ‘affordable’ and 1,000 of which will be council homes available for social rent. Residents of the town will be close to the Grand Union Canal, which will get enhancements along a 1km stretch. And they’ll have at least four hectares of new open land to frolic on – the equivalent of nearly six football pitches.

The framework also wants to create better connectivity between existing green spaces, including the borough’s proposed new regional park and Wormwood Scrubs and Brent Valley, and promises high streets with shops, cafes, restaurants, local services and amenities.

David Lunts, chief executive of OPDC said: ‘Ealing residents will be on the doorstep of all the fantastic amenities and opportunities Old Oak brings in the future.

‘We share Ealing Council's ambitions to create an inclusive, accessible and sustainable place for current and future generations and will work closely with Ealing and other host boroughs throughout Old Oak's development.’
