Will the Elizabeth line be affected by the September 2025 tube strikes?

Will the Elizabeth line be affected by the September 2025 tube strikes?

London was so, so close to making it an entire year without tube strikes. We’ve enjoyed blissful strike-free travel on the Underground for nine months straight, but this week that streak will officially be broken.

Members of the RMT union have voted for a week-long period of industrial action starting on Friday, September 5. They’re walking out in response to disputes over pay, working hours and previous promises not being met by their employer Transport for London (TfL).

Every single London Underground line will be impacted by the strikes, with services cancelled across the network. Workers on the DLR will be walking out for five day, too. But what about the London’s purple line which, despite diving up to 34m underground, isn’t actually considered part of the Underground? Here’s how September’s tube strikes will affect the Elizabeth line.

When are the September 2025 tube strikes?

Various Underground and DLR staff will be walking out everyday from Sunday, September 7 to Thursday, September 11

Will the Underground strikes affect the Elizabeth line?

Commuters will be relieved to know that the Lizzie line will indeed be running as normal during the strikes, as it’s not technically part of the London Underground.

That said, it may still face knock-on effects from the walkout. It’s likely to be busier while Underground lines are closed and TfL has warned that it could face delays and may not stop at certain stations served by tube lines.

How long will the industrial action last?

Strikes on the tube will last a week, while the DLR strikes will last five days.

Will trains and buses be disrupted?

The London Overground lines, National Rail, and London bus services will all be running as usual during the strikes. They are likely to be a lot busier than normal, though, so it’ll probably be worth giving yourself some extra time to get to where you need to go.
