A brand-new production of ‘Grease’ is coming to the West End next year

Have you got chills? Are they multiplying? Well you’re either coming down with something or else you’ve detected the return of ‘Grease’, Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey’s iconic ’50s nostalgia musical. First seen in the West End way back in 1973 with a young actor named Richard Gere in the role of high school hotshot Danny Zuko, it was, of course, very famously turned into a world-conquering 1978 film with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Since then it’s had a big revival every decade or so: following the successful, reality TV show fuelled 2007 production, the time has come for the antics of Danny, Sandy, Rizzo, Kenickie and more to gain a new lease of life in this huge new production at the colossal Dominion Theatre.

Directed by Nikolai Foster, with choreography by national treasure Arlene Phillips, this new ‘Grease’ aims to be a grittier affair than usual – surely relative – and will switch things up by reinstating some of the songs and script from the very first production that have fallen by the wayside in the wake of the film (although we’re promised that all the classic songs from the film will also be present and correct).

There’s no casting announced yet, but of course you know the big tunes already – better shape up and get a ticket, as they're onsale now.

‘Grease’ is at the Dominion Theatre, May 3-Oct 29 2022. Buy tickets here.
