After years of waiting, one of the best breakfasts in London is back.
St John’s iconic (and we don’t say that lightly) bacon sandwich has returned in bun form at its newest opening, St John Neal’s Yard in Covent Garden.
Until the pandemic, St John Bread + Wine was known for its heroic buttie, which briefly returned in take-away form in 2021. However, you can now sit down and enjoy the bacon bap from 9am until 11.45am daily at the cosy Covent Garden location, which opened at the end of last year.
The breakfast menu will also include a bacon and smoked cod’s roe buns as well as an anchovy bun, while doughnuts and pastries will also be served, alongside coffee and – if you’re feeling bold – a breakfast bloody mary. They’ll also be offering breakfast wine pairings, with a breakfast perry suggested to go alongside the bacon bun, and St John Blanc de Blanc 1er Cru NV for the smoked cod’s roe bun.
St John Neal’s Yard can be found at 6 Neal’s Yard, Covent Garden, WC2H 9DP, opposite its former bakery location, which closed last year to make way for the new eat-in restaurant and wine bar.
If booze for breakfast sounds a bit rich for your blood, then the Neal’s Yard location is open daily until 10pm (9pm on Sundays) for wine and snacks such as asparagus and Ticklemore cheese, mussels, devilled chicken hearts and prune skewers as well as the ever-popular St John rarebit.
