Ever wanted to know what the top rated restaurant in the UK is? Wonder no longer. In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of telling you the right way to walk down the street, Google Maps – which launched in 2005 – has released a list of the app’s top rated restaurants in the UK.
The top 20 user-rated restaurants is topped by a much-loved London spot – a place that’s home to the bacon brekkie naan and the chicken ruby curry. It’s Dishoom of course! And, specifically, the branch in Shoreditch, which opened in 2012. It’s got an overall Google Maps rating of 4.8 stars, based on a whopping 30,721 reviews. Two other Dishooms also made the list.
The Indian-inspired chain has numerous outposts across London, including the original Covent Garden branch (which came in at number seven on the list), as well in Soho (number 11), Battersea, Canary Wharf, King’s Cross, and Kensington. The Dishoom group also has plans to open a branch of their Permit Room all-day cafe in Notting Hill this spring, if you can’t get enough of their black daal.
In close second was the Perivale branch of Pakistani restaurant Royal Nawaab, which you’ll find in the glorious art deco Hoover building. With more than 26,000 ratings, it has an overall 4.5 stars on Google Maps. The halal chain’s Ilford restaurant ranked 17th.
The top 20 also saw a very decent turn-out for the lavish, Italian-styled restaurants from the Big Mamma Group, with their London spots Ave Mario, Gloria, Circolo Popolare and Jacuzzi all making it into the top 10 best-ranked UK restaurants by Google Maps users.
Maps users are also fans of the Westfield Stratford branch of Popeyes and longstanding Soho veggie spot Govinda’s, which is part of the Radha Krishna Temple.
Outside of London, the Turtle Bay chain of Caribbean restaurants appeared four times.
