With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’ve all got romance on the brain. And what could possibly be more romantic than a dinner date? London is spilling with dreamy dining rooms, sultry bars and glamorous eateries that would have anyone falling head over heels, but at Time Out it’s our job to let you know which of those spots are the romantic crème de la crème.
So, if you have someone you’re keen to impress right now, take them to the place we’ve crowned the most romantic restaurant in the city: French bistro and ‘heavenly hideaway’ Bouchon Racine.
Sat on the top floor of the Three Compasses pub in Farringdon, Bouchon Racine has cosy candle-lit tables, an intimate conservatory area adorned with fairy lights and a menu full of oh-so-seductive French fare.
The menu, which is written on a blackboard and changed often, is kept simple and classic – think rabbit with mustard sauce and smoked bacon, bavette with Saint-Marcellin sauce or cod fillet with saffron and mussels. Of course, the wine list is all French, too.
In her five star review of the restaurant Time Out contributor Anna Masing said: ‘The front of house team were the embodiment of hospitality, making us feel comfortable and special, and happy to explain the aspects of the menu that felt unfamiliar. The dining room layout has a few nooks and corners but instead of feeling cramped, it is cosy and intimate.
‘Although Farringdon is more of a business hub than a neighbourhood, Bouchon Racine manages to cultivate the feeling of a second home. The word “restaurant” comes from the French verb to restore; it’s a perfect fit for Bouchon Racine – in its comforting food and charming service it feels utterly restorative.’
Sadly, there are no tables left at Bouchon Racine on Valentine’s Day, but the wonderful thing about it is that it’s primed for flirtatious rendezvous any day of the year.
