The redevelopment of Olympia has been a long time in the making. The £1.3 billion project, which has totally overhauled the Victorian exhibition centre in Kensington, kicked off back in 2017. Originally supposed to be complete in 2024, the site is set to begin welcoming visitors to its various venues between now and 2027.
Upon completion, Olympia looks like it’ll be a heck of a destination. The complex will boast a huge 1,575-seat theatre, a massive 3,800-cap music venue called the British Airways ARC, a ‘jazz club style restaurant’ and a couple of posh hotels, as well as bars, cafes, restaurants, offices, a school and a Global media hub.
In other words, there are set to be a whole load of new reasons to head down to Olympia – and, handily, it’ll soon be even easier to get there. Olympia’s developers are partnering with TfL to hugely increase the number of Mildmay line trains to Kensington (Olympia).
For the next five years, there will be 16 extra peak‑time Mildmay services per weekday running between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush. On this section of the line there will be a 20 percent increase in services in mornings and 33 percent in afternoons/evenings.
Olympia investors Yoo Capital and DFI will fund the extra Overground services as part of a five-year agreement. The new timetable starts on Monday May 18 2026, departing from Clapham Junction’s platform 17.
As well as enabling more people to get to Olympia, the new services will boost access to Westfield White City and connect more south Londoners with TfL services like the Piccadilly and Central lines.
Commenting on the new services, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: ‘This is great news for Londoners. These additional services will provide more capacity, making journeys easier and more comfortable for Londoners. As Mayor, I’m committed to continuing to improve London’s public transport network as we build a better, greener London for everyone.’
Olympia Estates CEO Michael Volkert said: ‘With Olympia soon to be welcoming Londoners and visitors from all over the world, our priority is to make sure that our fantastic new bars, restaurants, hotels and cultural venues, as well as our iconic halls, are easily accessible for as many people as possible.
‘This agreement with TfL is a major step in ensuring our guests are only ever moments away from our corner of the capital, and we are delighted to have been able to play our part in making this happen.’
