The magnificent Bayeux Tapestry is coming back to Britain in just a matter of months. It’s been 900 years since the embroidered cloth, which depicts the 1066 Battle of Hastings, was last believed to have been on British soil.
Most historians reckon the tapestry was created by nuns in Canterbury a few years after the battle and ended up in France as it was commissioned by the Bishop of Bayeux in Normandy, who was William the Conqueror’s half-brother. There have been several attempts from Brits to loan the artwork over the past century, but this is the first time an attempt has been successful. So, it’s a massive deal.
Thousands of people will want to get their hands on tickets to see the tapestry in the flesh. The public will finally be able to buy tickets for the hotly anticipated exhibition next week. Here’s how.
